Filling the Gaps

Dearly Beloved,

It is so exciting to me how our Mission & Outreach Team have been helping our congregation get active and engaged in all sorts of incredibly meaningful ways in our wider community! Did you know that over the last two months, we've had a number of people from our congregation volunteer at Community Kitchen, filling gaps in their schedules to feed our hungry neighbors? A shout-out to Allie and Chris Mason and their daughter Brooklyn, to Jacki Jensen, Mark Harden, Chad Johns, and Ray and Joni Turner. (If I've missed you -- let me know, and I'll make sure you get a shout-out next week!)

One of the ways that we are getting connected is through staff at our local schools to fill gaps of need for kids who are either unaccompanied (have no responsible adult in their lives) or live in precarious situations with unstable housing. These kids need financial help to pay for things like driving tests, cell phone plans, school pictures, and the purchase of sports uniforms and equipment. They also need support that involves time and involvement: someone to provide regular transportation to and from school and to therapy appointments, someone to help them get their driving hours, or a friendly face to cheer them on at a sporting event, musical performance or school play.

With your generous gifts to our Mission & Outreach Funds and developing partnerships with other local congregations, we're getting the financial piece covered. We still need people to step in and give of time and love. Might that be you? Because, of course, it's not just a ride to school, it's also a calm, consistent and compassionate presence. Please reach out to me if you think God may be calling you to make a difference in this way.

I know many of us do not have the time to do this, so please pray -- pray for these kiddos. Pray for their families and the people who care for them. Pray for our wider community that we may set up systems so that none of their needs fall through the gaps.

With love and so much gratitude,
